Why It Works
Tarnish is silver sulfide . The baking soda and salt create an electrolytic bath, causing an electrochemical reaction where sulfur atoms transfer away from the silver and bond to the aluminum foil instead. This reverses the oxidation process directly without rubbing away any of the underlying silver metal.
